KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 ? Khairy Jamaluddin said today he would sue Kuala Selangor MP Dzulkefly Ahmad for claiming on Twitter that his involvement in the ECM Libra-Avenue Capital Resources merger in 2005 ?plundered the nation.??Discussing with my legal counsel but I won?t be asking for 100 stupid apologies from Dzul,? the Rembau MP told The Malaysian Insider, referring to a recent settlement in which magazine publishers Blu Inc Media directed a PKR aide to apologise 100 times on Twitter for an offending post on the micro-blogging site.
Sitting just across each other in Parliament today, Khairy and the PAS central committee member engaged in a heated debate over the deal.
But only MPs who checked their Twitter accounts today were aware of the slanging match that has continued since last week?s debate over claims that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak coincided his state visit to Kazakhstan with the engagement of his daughter.
Dzulkefly raised the Umno Youth chief?s ?controversial ECM Libra share purchase? this morning, referring to the merger that was investigated and eventually cleared of wrongdoing by Parliament?s Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
?Since BN plundered this nation. u incld w ur controversial ECM-Libra share purchase,?[sic] he told Khairy on Twitter.
But Khairy challenged the PAS lawmaker to state for the record how the ECM Libra deal equated to plundering the nation.
?Twisting to avoid a lawsuit are you? Your insinuation is ECM deal part of plundering nation. Yes or no? Simple. Yes or no? Don?t worm your way out of this, Dzul. At least be brave enough to answer,? Khairy replied.
Dzulkefly insisted it was not the merger that was in question, but the purchase and sale of Khairy?s shares.
?Nation just wnted to know how a young ?unemployd? man purchasd RM9.2mil ECM-libra shares? Not as easy to wriggleout for u now. Nothing doing w ACRB just the sale of ur shares. Who bought those shares??[sic] he said.
Eventually, Dzulkefly said ?No insinuation required, clear as daylight! Answer me!? which Khairy took as ?Closest I?m gonna get to ?yes?. BTW tweeting in Dewan offers no immunity.?
Dzulkefly replied that ?I need no immunity,? to which Khairy responded: ?Good then. No more shifting goalposts. Wheels in motion. I?ve taken your statement as a direct accusation. I?m sure you?re clever enough to know what happens next.?
The exchange drew the attention of other Malaysians on Twitter, including Hulu Selangor MP P. Kamalanathan and MCA?s former Subang Jaya assemblyman Datuk Lee Hwa Beng.
